in Gunter Industrial Park are in the section that serves as front door to the park. This is one of the first and most successful industrial parks in Alabama. It was developed on land ceded back to the city by DoD in 1973, when Gunter AFB was downsized and became an AF Station. The concrete runways built by the Army Air Corps in 1940 still exist within the park, and the pavements are utilized as loading and parking ramps for many of the manufacturing and warehousing entities located here; the old runway pattern can still be discerned from aerial photos of the area.
