Alabama Shakespeare Park
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is in Montgomery. The Shakespeare Festival was designed by Thomas Blount and Perry Pittman. The building structure is based on the theories of Andrea Palladio and houses two theaters. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival was originally located in Anniston. In the 1980s they began to build a new building for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is one of the largest Shakespeare festivals in the world. Since the theater has opened, millions of people have enjoyed great productions.
Recently, The Alabama Shakespeare festival has celebrated the 26th anniversary of the Southern Writers’ Project. In May of each year, directors, actors and stage mangers come together to write and rewrite scripts before they are published. This is a way for play writers and others to support each other and hear each other’s work. Over a million students have participated in this program.
