Knox Hall

Knox Hall

…on South Perry is said to be the finest example of a Greek Revival mansion in Montgomery. Its architect, Stephen Decatur Button, was from Connecticut, and he also designed the 1847 Capitol here. It was built in the 1840s but underwent a restoration in 1981. Knox Hall was one of three mansions considered for use as the governor’s mansion in 1950. The mansion was built for William Knox, who was president and builder of the splendid Central Bank building that still stands at #1 Dexter Avenue.
